Effects of Exercise

Twenty years ago, U.S. men and women ranked first on the planet in longevity — today, American women rank 19th and America men rank 28th. Type II diabetes cases in the U.S. will triple to 39 million by 2050, according to information from the Centers for Disease Control. Given the current rise in obesity, one Dalton investigator predicts that all American children will be obese by 2044.

Dalton investigators search for evidence as to why sedentary lifestyles increase the risk of diabetes and many other unhealthy conditions. They also observe functional changes in the heart after endurance training and seek to increase exercise tolerance.
